Introduce
Garnet is a gemstone that includes many types of magnesia-aluminum garnet, iron-aluminum garnet, calcium-aluminum garnet, calcium-iron garnet, and calcium-chromium garnet. It has a hardness of 7.0-7.5 and a specific gravity of 3.53-4.32. It has an extremely important role in a variety of industries such as sandblasting and rust removal, waterjet cutting, filtering media, jewelry, and abrasives. However, garnet has a low content in the ore and mostly needs to be purified through beneficiation before it can be used.
Technological Process
There are two main methods of garnet beneficiation, one is the strong magnetic separation method and the other is the gravity separation method. The strong magnetic separation method is used to treat iron-bearing garnets, and the magnetic field strength is higher than 12000 gauss when it can adsorb fine-grained garnets. Gravity separation method is used to treat coarse grained garnet ore, which is sorted according to the specific gravity difference between garnet and waste rock.
Coarse grained garnets can be used to make jewelry and other decorative items and are more expensive, so the garnet placer ore beneficiation process does not include a crushing process. The raw ore enters the chute screen to screen out the waste stones above 30mm. The rest of the material enters the trommel scrubber to wash away the mud in the placer ore. The trommel scrubber also has a sieving function, which sieves the 0-30mm material into two particle grades, 0~8 and 8~30. Then it enters the trapezoidal jigger and large particle jigger respectively, and finally produces concentrate and tailings.
The processing of garnet’s placer ore is relatively simple, only need to go through washing, screening and jigging. The rock ore of garnet is more troublesome to process, and additional processes such as crushing and grinding are required.
