Iron ore is an important raw material for steel production enterprises. There are many types of iron ore. Magnetite (Fe3O4), limonite (Fe2O3.H2O), hematite (Fe2O3) and siderite (FeCO3) are mainly used for ironmaking.

Iron ore is an important raw material for steel production enterprises. Generally, iron ore with a grade of less than 50% needs to be processed before smelting. The following are the theoretical highest grades of various iron ore:

  • For magnetite, the theoretical maximum grade is 72.4%.
  • For hematite, the theoretical maximum grade is 70%.
  • For limonite, the theoretical maximum grade is 62.9%.
  • For siderite, the theoretical maximum grade is 48.3%.

Magnetite has good magnetic permeability, and magnetic separation technology and equipment are generally used for beneficiation and purification. The entire process includes crushing, screening, magnetic separation and other processes. The specific process flow needs to be determined according to the specific properties of the ore and the processing capacity and other factors.

Commonly used magnetite beneficiation production lines include crushers, vibrating screens, ball mills, classifiers, magnetic separators and other equipment.

2. Limonite beneficiation equipment, limonite beneficiation production line

Limonite is relatively weak in magnetic permeability, and gravity beneficiation technology and equipment are generally used for beneficiation and purification. There are also cases of purifying fine-grained limonite by flotation method, but the flotation method has a large investment in equipment, pollution, and high production cost, which is not suitable for use in small and medium-sized concentrators. There is also a method of magnetic roasting to treat limonite, specularite, and hematite, but the equipment investment is huge and the actual application is very small.

Commonly used limonite gravity beneficiation production lines include crushers, vibrating screens, jigs, dewatering screens and other equipment. Other processes also use flotation machines, ball mills, rotary kilns and other mining equipment.

3. Specularite beneficiation equipment, specularite beneficiation production line

Specularite is similar to weakly magnetic iron ore such as hematite and limonite, and has poor magnetic permeability. Generally, gravity beneficiation method is used for ore dressing and purification. There are also purification methods using magnetic roasting, but due to the large investment in equipment and high production costs, the magnetic roasting method has never become the core method of specularite beneficiation. The gravity beneficiation method is very common in the field of specularite beneficiation.

4. Hematite equipment, hematite beneficiation production line

The properties of hematite are basically the same as specularite, and the beneficiation method and process are exactly the same. Usually, gravity beneficiation and magnetized roasting methods are used for beneficiation and purification. However, it is difficult to obtain the ideal beneficiation index by any beneficiation method for the refractory hematite which is disseminated with fine grains. For coarse-grained hematite and specularite beneficiation, gravity beneficiation is the most ideal and simplest beneficiation method, and the equipment investment and production cost are also very low.

5. Siderite

Siderite is not magnetic, nor can it be purified by gravity beneficiation. It can only be purified by magnetization roasting, which will not be introduced here.
